The Hindu | June 30 2006

Visakhapatnam, June 30 (UNI): Fifteen tribal youths from East Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts have been selected to participate in the UNESCO World Youth Festival 2006, scheduled to be held from July 2 to 16 in Stuttgart in Germany.

The festival is organised as part of the on-going World Cup Soccer FIFA Football championship.

Addressing a press conference here Executive Director and Director of the NGO ‘Samata’ working for the development of Girijans, R Ravi and K Bhanumati respectively, said the tour to Germany would benefit Girijan youths and it would provide them more exposure.

He said the selected youths were working as teachers in the Balamitra schools run by the Samata.

They would also participate in the closing ceremony of the World Cup football championship.

The festival would provide a platform for the tribals to interact with their counterparts from other countries.

A power point presentation would be made to explain the impact of industrial development and other related projects on the tribals.

A youth team from Germany would visit the tribal area here to study the life and culture of the tribals, they added.
